Rev. Carlo De Angelis, CRM made his solemn profession on January 5, 1972. He was ordained to the priesthood on June 17, 1972 and is currently assigned at the parish of St. Francis Caracciolo Parish, in Naples, Italy.
He was elected as the president of the 63d General Chapter of Adorno Fathers to preside at all sessions and discussions during the chapter.
When asked about his thoughts regarding the 63rdGeneral Chapter, he responded, “that we are for the first time, a universal community. Every delegation is well represented from different parts of the world. We are not anymore all Italians, but a kind of “united nations” and a real universal reality, a community meeting from all parts of the world.”
As a chairman of this Chapter, he hopes to be a good instrument of the Holy Spirit to lead the proceedings of this chapter productively.
He mentioned that there are some issues in our present society that directly or indirectly affect our delegations. One of these issues he mentioned is the wave of immigrants to Italy from Africa.
It reminded him of what the Pope Francis said about opening our doors to these helpless immigrants. This could be, he said, as one of missions that the order can start, a mission at home, especially in the Italian delegation.
This could be in line with the spirit of the Order, venturing to other parts of the world to proclaim the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ and to build communities in Africa, India, Philippines.
When there is need at home to respond to the same opportunity, the Order must be proactive in responding according the the Church’s stand with regards to social issues.
This could be one of the points that the new Superior General will consider supporting, to be able to open a mission at home.
With regards to who will be the next Superior General, he said that it’s the work of the Holy Spirit through the chapter fathers.
As the chapter fathers pray and discern who they are going to vote for, every one should be open to the inspiration of the Holy Spirit that the general elect would be capable to lead the Order into the future.
